About This Game

The game is made for the GBA Jam 2026.

We wanted to create a 'star battle' puzzle game (also known as 'queens') for the Game Boy Advance. Since we are also working on our main GBA game Dare To Square at the moment we set in in the same setting, using the characters/players from that game.

The goal of the game is to find all players hidden in the grid. You will need to apply a basic set of rules to deduct the locations, similar to minesweeper.

The game features 10.000 unique levels (with a grid size of 4 through 10), a challenge mode with leaderboard and a small tutorial to explain the rules of the game.

Dare To Doku also runs great on real hardware and has been tested by us using different after-market flash cartridges. The majority of testing was done using GBA emulator mGBA on our laptop/pc.

Programming and game design was done by me (Stijn) using the Butano game engine, while art was made by my twin brother (Pieter) in Asesprite. Together we make up Homebrew Twins. Voice lines were recorded and edited by my lovely wife in Audacity.

We used some pre-existing assets for art and audio. For art we reused the player sprites and some UI elements (like font and part of background for the pause menu) from our own game Dare To Square. For audio we purchased the Cute & Cozy UI SFX sounds effects pack from Case Portman, and reused the main theme of Dare To Square for the music.
